Question:
Can one make duaa at the time of Sajdah and Ruku ? How should one make dua at those times? Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful It is permissible to make dua in sajdah (prostration) and rukoo (bowing). As for rukoo, a person should adhere to the duas that are narrated in the Hadith regarding what ought to be recited in rukoo. However, in sajdah he may read the duas that are narrated in the Hadith or make dua using his own words. Nevertheless, his personal dua must be in Arabic and cannot resemble kalamul-naas (anything which can be asked from the creation, e.g. a car, house, etc.). In other words, he can only make dua for those things which can be sought only from Allah ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ, e.g. forgiveness, mercy, Paradise, etc. If one decides to make dua in sajdah or rukoo, he should do so after reciting the tasbeeh at least thrice. It is best to recite these duas in nafl prayers, however it is also permissible to recite them in the fardh prayers when one is praying individually. As for the Imam, it is not recommended for him to make dua in sajdah or rukoo because of the possibility of it becoming burdensome for the followers. [1] Only Allah knows best
