Saving money for Funeral Expenses

Question: One sister is asking, is it ok if she puts aside money each month for her own funeral? After her death, this money would be used for her funeral expenses. بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Yes, it is permissible for her to do that. However, during her lifetime, she will still have to pay Zakat on the money saved up should Zakat become necessary for her. Also, any money left over after paying off her funeral expenses will be used to pay off debts, etc. (kindly refer to local Ulema regarding the Islamic procedure of distributing one’s estate)
