Question:
The tasbih of ruku and sajdah, does it have to be 3, 5, or 7 times? Can one recite more than 7 in a fardh Salah ? What if a person reads it 4, 6, or any even number of tasbihs ? Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The minimum amount of the tasbeehat for ruku and sajdah is three, hence completely omitting them or reciting less than three is Makrooh (disliked). However, it is best to do more and recite in odd numbers even if it is more than seven, e.g., 5, 7, or 9, for the one praying alone (whether fard or nafl). The muqtadi (follower) may recite until the Imam lifts his head from ruku.
As for the Imam, he should not read beyond three times because of the possibility of it being an inconvenience for those praying behind him. It is permissible to read in even numbers, however, it is best to read in odd numbers.
