Question:
AsSalamu Alaikum. I have a question that’s been lingering on my mind. I met a man with the intention of marriage and alhamdullilah he checks off many boxes- he’s practicing, prays, etc. however, he holds a certain viewpoint about the Dajjal and return of Jesus that concerns me a bit.
He states that he’s heard several different stories and versions of how this will go down growing up and that he feels these are more biblical stories than Quranic ones. He said it’s not that he doesn’t believe in the antichrist and the return of Jesus, it’s just that he doesn’t know if it’ll happen since it’s not mentioned in the Quran (I mentioned that there’s an authentic Hadith about all this and at first I thought maybe he was one of those people who rejects Hadith but he confirmed he absolutely does not reject Hadith and has mentioned Hadith other times during other conversations but that he looks to the Quran first then the Hadith and that he just doesn’t understand why it’s not mentioned in the Quran). But he then also stated he believes in the anti christ and the return of Jesus, but doesn’t understand the lesson learned from them and that if it does happen, since he’s a believer he has faith he’d follow the correct person.
Should I be concerned to marry a man with this viewpoint? From my understanding this is a core and pivotal belief in Islam so this somewhat confused and concerned me. This seems to be the only viewpoint of his that’s somewhat different and odd and it’s been on my mind. Would it be wrong to marry a man like this?
Answer:
In the name of Allah the most gracious and the most Merciful,
Wa alaikum Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
Believing in return of Isa عليه السلام , coming of Dajjal, birth of Mahdi etc are amongst the core beliefs of Ahlus Sunnah, anybody who doubts them or rejects them is severely misguided and have made himself vulnerable to Shaytan, as all of these Aqaid are from Quran and Sunnah.
Allah swt has mentioned many of these major signs of the day of judgment in all of his previous scriptures, so yes, advent of Dajjal is a story from Injeel, Torah and the majestic Qur'an.
The person in question seems to be suffering from lack of knowledge, listening to misguided people on the internet and general lack of scholarly guidance. I would advise you to have him listen to the lectures of authentic Ulama and read such books that mention in great detail what are our core beliefs, if he understands this and tries to correct himself, there's nothing wrong in marrying him, as he has other good qualities as well. If he goes deeper into such thoughts and keeps taking Ahadith lightly, it would not be advisable to marry such a person, as hadith is the explanation of the Quran. Quran cannot be understood except through the words and actions of Rasūl-Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم.
And Allah knows best,
