Question:
Would appreciate it if this question could be answered before Friday. If there is no jumuah salah in masjid do I have to look for people to read jumuah at home or can I just read zohar instead without attempting to find another 3 people to read salaatul jumuah with. Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
If the country or city you are residing in is on lockdown, e.g. the UK and many other regions, you should abide by the government’s mandates and refrain from breaking any laws. In the case of a lockdown, you are not required to search for people in order to form a congregation at home nor join a congregation outside your home because that would constitute breaking the law. On the basis thereof, you should pray Zuhr Salah in congregation with those living in the same house as you, e.g. wife, parents, children, etc. It would be invalid to perform a private Jumua Salah with those residing in the same unit as you in such a way that no one is aware of it besides you and your family. اﻫـ. Raddul Muhtar: v. 3, p. 26 (Maktaba Imdadia) If the government of a specific region allows people to congregate, however there are no jumua prayers offered at any of the masjids, then (taking all precautionary measures that are advised by the government and health experts) a Muslim should endeavor to form a small congregation, to perform the Jumua prayer, consisting of at least four adult males, i.e. one
Imam and three followers. This can be done by inviting a few Muslim men (apart from those living with you) over to your home to perform the prayer, so it does not become a “private jumua”. In addition, access must be granted to those wishing to pray the Jumua Salah unless the law limits the number of congregants in a gathering. In that case, you would be allowed to restrict the number of attendees, e.g. the law prohibits public gatherings that comprise more than ten individuals, hence you refuse access to the eleventh person.
