Question:

Was there any epidemic during the time of the Prophet (s.a.w.)? A nswer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Yes, when the Prophet (s.a.w.) migrated to Medina, it had been overtaken by an epidemic of fever. Consequently, many of the Sahaba (r.a.) became sick. (Umdatul Qari: v. 10, p. 357 [DKI]) The Prophet (s.a.w.) asked Allah

”واﻧُﻘ ْﻞ وﺑﺎ َءﻫﺎ إﻟﻰ َﻣ ْﻬﯿَﻌ َﺔ“ saying: by Madina from epidemic the remove to ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ

(transfer its [Madina’s] epidemic to Mahya’ah [i.e. Juhfa]). (Sahih Ibn Hibban: Hadith 5600)
