As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatu -llāhi wa-barakātuhū
It is absolutely permissible to name your male child Hud, rather it is the sunnah of Rasūl-Allāh (ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhī wa-ʾālihī wa-sallama) as he too named his son after a Prophet, Ibrahim.
