Question:
When buying a house and intending to rent it out but end up selling it, is there Zakat on the house? In other words, when he is buying he is intending to rent it out, but later on he changes his mind and decides to sell it. Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There is no zakat on the house in reference, regardless of him selling it in the future, because he did not purchase it with the intention of resale.[1] Nevertheless, there will be zakat upon the income which is generated by way of rent money on the condition that it amounts to nisab, one zakat year passes over it, and it is excess of his basic necessities.
