Question:
When someone buys a car and has dual intentions that he will use it for a little while but then sell it, is there zakat on that?
Answer:
ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There is no zakat on the car in reference, regardless of his dual intention, because he did not purchase it with the sole intention of immediate resale.1 Nevertheless, there will be zakat upon the money received by way of selling the car on the condition that the money amounts to nisab, one zakat year passes over it, and it is excess of his basic necessities.
Only Allah knows best
