Selling Christmas tree

Question Is it permissible to sell Christmas Trees and ornaments at Christmas time to Christians? Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

No, it will not be permissible to sell Christmas trees or ornaments regardless of the customers’ faith. When someone sells items which are salient features of a religious holiday (e.g. a Christmas tree), then he would be assisting in promoting something which is strictly prohibited (i.e. celebrating Christmas). Christmas trees and ornaments are symbolic of Christmas, which is a Christian holiday. Hence, the objective of making Christmas trees and ornaments is so that people may celebrate Christmas by the means thereof; that is why it is called a “Christmas” tree and a “Christmas” ornament. Allah ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ says, “And do not assist one another in sin and aggression…” (Surah Al-Maaida: v. 2).
