Question:
I would like to ask if I would be exempt from Hajj if I had the means but I have no one to leave my disabled child with? My family can't have him as he is quite difficult to care for and they have their own circumstances. My husband's family can't help either and he has never been away from us, e.g. in respite care etc.
Would it mean, even if we could afford to, I could not travel with my husband? Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A person capable of performing Hajj will not be exempt from it due to having a disabled child. You are advised to continue searching for someone to take care of your child so that you may fulfill the obligatory Hajj. Other alternative options would be: taking your child with you for Hajj (if that is possible) or leaving the child with the father and traveling with another mahram (male relative who is prohibited to marry, e.g. brother, grandpa, uncle, etc.) with whom you feel safe. Nevertheless, if none of these options are currently possible for you, you may delay your Hajj until you are able to make arrangements for your child.1 Only Allah knows best Written by Maulana Mohammad Ahsan Osmani Checked and approved by Mufti Mohammed Tosir Miah Darul Ifta Birmingham
