Reading Quran in one's mind

December 22, 20201 min readQuranquranrecitation

Question
Is reading the Quran in one’s mind equal to reading aloud? Which one is more virtuous?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

Reading in one’s mind is not considered *qiraat* (recitation) in the literal sense, hence when reading, one should at the very least move their lips and tongue and read loud enough to hear themself to gain the reward of ‘reciting the Quran’ as mentioned in the Hadiths.

Fatawa Hindiya: v. 1. p. 77 (DKI)
